Shakespeare in the Parking Lot Nabs a New Lower East Side Spot | Playbill

News Shakespeare in the Parking Lot Nabs a New Lower East Side Spot After losing its regular parking lot performance space last year, the Drilling Company NY has secured a new Lower East Side location for its 21st annual two-play festival, Shakespeare in the Parking Lot. This year's performances will take place in the parking lot behind The Clemente Soto Velez Cultural and Educational Center (CSV).

Performances of As You like It, directed by Hamilton Clancy, will run July 9 through 26 and Macbeth will play July 30 through 15, with a director to be announced at a later date. The Drilling Company launched Shakespeare in the Parking Lot in 1995. For 20 years, they have staged free shows in the neighborhood known as the Seward Park Urban Renewal Area, which is now giving way to Essex Crossing, a giant mixed-used development. It took the company nine months to secure the new space, which is just three blocks from the original, continuing the company's mission to bring free Shakespeare to New York's Lower East Side neighborhood.

Performances will be located at 114 Norfolk St., on the east side of Norfolk St. between Delancey and Rivington St.'s. For more information please visit drillingcompany.org.
