News Shakespeare's Globe Has Record Year

Shakespeare's Globe is one of the most popular theatregoing tourist destinations in the West End, and this year was its best season ever.

Ticket sales reached 87% of capacity. Even The Golden Ass, a little-known play, sold over 75% of seats, while the better-known Twelfth Night (a very popular play this year, and one which Sam Mendes has chosen as his final production at the Donmar) sold 93% of seats, while the perennial summer production of A Midsummer Night's Dream came very close, reaching 90% of capacity.

Details of the 2003 season will be announced before Christmas, and booking will open in February. Shakespeare's Globe has been a great success story under the artistic direction of Mark Rylance, who co-starred this year in Twelfth Night and The Golden Ass.
