Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown will welcome Shoshana Bean (Wicked) as guest vocalist at his May 19 concert at SubCulture, the Greenwich Village cabaret where he is artist-in-residence and has been hosting a monthly series for the past three years.
He said, “There’s no one in the world with a better instinct for how to bring my music to life than Shoshana Bean—we’ve been collaborating for almost ten years now, and every concert is another huge and thrilling step forward. She’ll be singing some new songs of mine and I hope to entice her to share some of her own wonderful material with us as well.”
SubCulture promises “an eclectic mix of material, featuring music from throughout his acclaimed career, along with new works in development.”
Bean appeared in the original cast of Hairspray, and was a replacement Elphaba in Wicked from 2005–2006. She has appeared extensively in national tours, regional productions, and concert venues. As a songwriter herself, she composed material for the musical Dear John Mayer, and the award-winning single “Superhero.”
A Tony Award winner for his score to Parade, Brown has also written music and lyrics for The Bridges of Madison County, Honeymoon in Vegas, The Last Five Years, Urban Cowboy, 13, and the forthcoming Prince of Broadway.
On June 12, the day after the 2017 Tony Awards, Brown will host his third annual “Post-Tony Extravaganza” concert at SubCulture, with guests to be announced.
Tickets to the SubCulture concerts can be ordered at Subculturenewyork.com.
