Douglas Carter Beane, who revised the book for the Broadway production of Sister Act (and picked up a 2011 Tony nomination for his work), told Playbill.com during the Tony nominees press reception that a U.S. tour will launch in fall 2012.

The tour will reflect the current Broadway production, which has been revised since its 2009 London debut. A majority of the original book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner (who share the Tony nomination and are still credited) has been rewritten for Broadway. Tony-nominated songwriters Alan Menken (music) and Glenn Slater (lyrics) have also re-explored parts of the score for Broadway.

Slater also told Playbill.com that he expects an upcoming U.K. tour to be based on the Broadway production rather than the London original. Sister Act is also poised to debut in Milan this November, with Vienna and Berlin to follow, as well as a Korean production in early 2012.

Stage Entertainment, along with Whoopi Goldberg, who starred in the 1992 film comedy about a nun on the run, are among the lead producers of the 1970s-set musical.

Sister Act opened on Broadway April 20 under the direction of Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks (Guys and Dolls, The Addams Family). American actress Patina Miller, who earned an Olivier Award nomination for originating the role of Deloris Van Cartier in London, repeats her work for the Broadway run. She was nominated for a 2011 Tony Award for Best Actress in a musical. Sister Act received a total of five 2011 Tony nominations, including Best Musical, Best Actress (Miller), Best Original Score (Menken/Slater) and Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Victoria Clark).

The Broadway Theatre is located at 1681 Broadway. For tickets phone (212) 239-6200, or visit Telecharge.com.
