Most nights, Club Fugazi is home to the long-running campy comedy of Beach Blanket Babylon. Feb. 25, however, some classy Broadway names — Rex Smith, Rachel York, Chuck Wagner and Gary Sandy — will be singing a collection of Off-Broadway hits for the benefit of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Richmond/Ermet AIDS Foundation. Like Smith, Sandy (of WKRP fame) performed in the Broadway revival of The Pirates of Penzance (Sandy was one of the Pirate Kings). He is now playing Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd in the national tour of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas with Ann-Margret. Smith's recent credits include The Scarlet Pimpernel and Kiss Me, Kate, in which he's playing opposite York, who was also his Scarlet Pimpernel co-star. Wagner, also a member of the Kiss Me, Kate company, is best known for his Broadway roles in Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast and Into the Woods.
Joining the headliners will be other cast members from Kiss Me, Kate and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Carole Cook (42nd Street, Radio Gals) will be the evening's mistress of ceremonies.
Tickets are $20-$100. Club Fugazi is located at 678 Green Street. For reservations, call (415) 421-4222.
