News   Snow White—An Enchanting Musical Opens Feb. 23 at Disney's Anaheim Theme Park
A 32-minute version of "Snow White" will begin performances at the Fantasyland Theatre at Disney's Anaheim Theme Park Feb. 23.

Snow White—An Enchanting Musical joins another Disney musical at the California theme park, Disney's Aladdin — A Musical Spectacular, which opened January 2003. Snow White, based on the classic 1937 film, will feature direction by Eric Schaeffer, the artistic director of Washington's Signature Theatre who helmed the acclaimed Sondheim Celebration at the Kennedy Center.

Snow White will be performed five times a day, seven days a week and will feature songs from the movie, which was Disney's first animated feature. Theatregoers can expect to hear such favorites as "Whistle While You Work," "Heigh Ho" and "Someday My Prince Will Come." Stage and screen star Patrick Stewart has supplied the voice for the magical mirror.

Anne Hamburger, the executive vice president of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment, told the North County Times, "Snow White has a tremendous amount of significance to us. 'Snow White' is the animated feature that started it all for us and it was important that we do it right."

In order to make the story more relevant for today's audiences, Hamburger said, "Our Snow White has a lot more spunk. Some of the naivete that existed way back then is gone. She's more wary of strangers. And she doesn't go on and on about cleaning the house for the dwarfs. She just cleans their house as a way of saying thank you for letting her stay with them. . . I have a philosophy that when you're taking an animated feature and putting it onstage you need to give these characters depth. We have a responsibility to re-create the story and characters that people are familiar with, but we want to give it some real dimension."
