The Tony Nominating Committee met late in the day, April 29 (the day after the end of the Broadway Tony season) to discuss rulings on various shows where eligibility was in question. Here are the findings:
* Fosse is considered a new musical, but it's not eligible for Best Choreography honors. According to the Keith Sherman press office, the Committee cited Jerome Robbins' Broadway as a precedent.
* You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown can be nominated for Best Musical Revival, but its somewhat refashioned Book isn't eligible.
* Solo shows by Mandy Patinkin, Colin Quinn, Sandra Bernhard, Charles Aznavour and Jerry Seinfeld are all ineligible because Tony voters weren't invited to attend. The same goes for the play, More To Love. * As previously reported, Swan Lake cannot be up for Play, Musical or Revival. However, elements of the show (such as the dancers or choreography), are eligible.
The Tony nominations will be announced May 3, 8:30 AM, at Sardi's Restaurant. The Tony Awards take place June 6, 8-11 PM, at the Gershwin Theater.
