Classic Arts News Sold-Out Opera-for-All Festival Opens at New York City Opera New York City Opera opens its Opera-for-All Festival tonight with a performance of highlights from the 2005-06 season.
Tonight's program includes excerpts from Strauss' Capriccio, Gilbert and Sullivan's Patience, Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, Puccini's Turandot, Rachel Portman's The Little Prince, Frank Loesser's The Most Happy Fella, Mark Adamo's Lysistrata, Mozart's Don Giovanni, Bizet's Carmen, and Handel's Acis and Galatea.

Pop singer Rufus Wainwright, an opera lover, will also appear. The evening is directed by John Goberman, best known as the executive producer of Live From Lincoln Center.

The sold-out festival continues tomorrow night with a performance of Puccini's Madama Butterfly, introduced by actress Cynthia Nixon.

Tickets for the festival, all priced at $25, sold out in less than a week after they went on sale last month. The company also rapidly sold 100 $25 tickets to its opening-night gala performance of Capriccio last night.
