News Sondheim Honored By Colorado Festival of World Theatre; Caldwell to Narrate Beautiful Girls Stephen Sondheim will add yet another award to his mantel when the Colorado Festival of World Theatre honors him with the Donald Seawell Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre Award.

As part of the celebration, a new review fashioned from Sondheim's extensive catalogue will be presented Sept. 22-23. Entitled Beautiful Girls, a Sondheim Tribute, the concert will be narrated by Tony Award winner Zoe Caldwell.

According to press notes, "Beautiful Girls explores a woman's journey through the different stages of her life as reflected in the work of Mr. Sondheim. Drawing from his extraordinary canon of songs written for the female characters in his shows, the revue creates a collage of all of the philosophies of love and life as seen through these characters eyes."

Longtime Sondheim conductor, Paul Gemignani, will be on hand to lead the full orchestra.

Stephen Sondheim has won seven Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize for his work on Broadway. Known for his skill as a lyricist, his early credits include West Side Story and Gypsy. However, it would be his groundbreaking work as both composer and lyricist that would earn him acclaim for his productions of Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Pacific Overtures, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park With George, Into the Woods, Assassins and Passion.

Colorado Festival of World Theatre dedicates its fourth year to the musical theatre art form. Theatre notables scheduled to take part in the festival include Sir Peter Shaffer (Amadeus, Equus), Academy Award-nominated actress Janet Suzman, Tony Award-winning director Joseph Hardy (Child's Play, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown), Tony Award-nominated actor Brian Murray (The Crucible, Uncle Vanya) and award-winning artist Daniel Beaty, who will also be starring in The Broadway Songs I Love.
