News South Africa's Wright to Make Broadway Debut in Chicago Amra-Faye Wright, who has starred in the South African productions of Chicago, Grease and A Chorus Line, will make her Broadway debut next month in the Broadway company of Chicago.

Wright will be the latest actress to portray Velma Kelly in the Tony-winning Kander and Ebb revival. Wright is scheduled to play the merry murderess Jan. 16-March 26, 2006. The singing actress will star opposite the Roxie Hart of Robin Givens, who will also be making her Broadway bow.

Amra-Faye Wright starred in the South African productions of Chicago, Grease and A Chorus Line, the U.K. tour of Footloose and the London production of Jack and the Beanstalk. Her one-woman shows include It's Not Where I Star!, Drinks on Me and Rouge Pulp.

Chicago currently stars Charlotte d'Amboise (Roxie Hart), Luba Mason (Velma Kelly), Huey Lewis (Billy Flynn), P.J. Benjamin (Amos Hart), Debra Monk (Matron Mama Morton) and R. Lowe (Mary Sunshine). Brenda Braxton joins the company Dec. 6 as Velma Kelly.

Chicago won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking. The original production was directed and choreographed by the late Bob Fosse.

Chicago plays the Ambassador Theatre, located at 215 West 49th Street.
