The musicians instead passed a motion expressing confidence in their negotiating committee and asking that negotiators bring only offers that it can recommend to the full membership for a vote.
Representatives of the players and SLSO president Randy Adams both said that they had nearly come to an agreement during 14 hours of talks on February 17, the second day that negotiators had met with a federal mediator. Each side said that the other had raised last-minute objections that scuttled the deal.
No further meetings are currently scheduled. "We feel it is premature to mediate at this time and recommend that the musicians vote on the current contract offer," Adams said.
