Here, via email, we hear from Broadway singing actress Heidi Blickenstaff, who is currently playing the role of Bea in the new musical Something Rotten! at the St. James Theatre.

What show recently impressed you?
I wouldn't have missed John Cameron Mitchell in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I was so profoundly moved by that show in the late 90s, and seeing it again was like getting in an awesome time machine and feeling super-powerful feelings that I hadn't felt in such a long time. John was magnificent, leg brace and all, and I fell in love with that score all over again. I'm so glad that it's getting so much Broadway love and it's being introduced to a whole new uptown audience. It's one of my top five favorite musicals of all time. If you haven't seen it, get there.

What production are you most excited to see?
I can't wait to see The Visit on Broadway. I've seen several incarnations through the years, always led by the exquisite Chita Rivera, and I think it's so wonderfully strange and gorgeous. I love the haunting story and the powerful design and, of course, that astounding Kander and Ebb score. Also, I might be a little in love with my Roger Rees...

What play/musical would you most like to revive on Broadway, and which role would you want to play?
This one is always a toughie for me because my passion is making new stuff, but if I had to pick right this moment, I'd say I'd love to play Cleo in The Most Happy Fella on Broadway. But Shuler [Hensley] and Laura [Benanti] and Cheyenne [Jackson] and Jay [Armstrong Johnson] and Casey [Nicholaw], and every other single person that was involved with that gorgeous production, all have to do it with me again. (We did it at New York City Center as part of their Encores! series about a year ago, and it remains one of my most treasured experiences.) What a stunning score by Frank Loesser!

What are your current/upcoming projects?
I'm currently playing Bea in Something Rotten! on Broadway. (And I couldn't be more thrilled!! Come see me!)
