News Stars of Hamilton and Something Rotten! Planned for Broadway Teachers Workshop More than 1,000 theatre teachers are expected to attend this summer's sessions.

The 15th annual Broadway Teachers Workshop gets underway July 7 with five three-day sessions and other events designed to connect theatre teachers from around the world with prominent Broadway artists.

Sessions are held at Broadway's Lyric Theatre, currently home to Paramour.

Each session consists of interactive workshops and seminars with the artists, attendance at four Broadway shows and post show discussions with cast and crew. More than 1,000 theatre educators are expected to participate this summer in New York City. The 2016 lineup includes tickets to Hamilton, Shuffle Along, On Your Feet and Fun Home —and workshops with cast and creative team members from all of those shows.

Presenters this summer include Lin Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom, Jr., Renee Elise Goldsberry, Rory O’Malley, Patrick Vassel (Associate Director, Hamilton), Leo Ash Evens (Shuffle Along), Patrick O’Neill (Associate Choreographer, School of Rock), Brad Oscar (Something Rotten!), Tobin Ost (Scenic Designer, Newsies), Bedlam Theatre Company, James Ortiz (The Woodsman) doing puppetry, and Joe Harris doing backstage tours of the Lyric Theatre, and David Loud (Scottsboro Boys, Curtains, Sondheim On Sondheim) presenting a class and concert drawn from the Harold Arlen songbook.

Designed to inspire teachers and directors of high school and middle school theatre and arts with new teaching methods, enhanced production skills, and an exchange of ideas with peers and professional Broadway artists, the program is produced by in conjunction with Music Theatre International and offers teachers the opportunity to earn graduate level academic credits.

This year’s Broadway Teachers’ Workshop sold out in just a few weeks. Registration for 2017 opens in November, 2016.
