News Stephen Schwartz Hosts ASCAP Workshop in Miami, Through Oct. 5 Oscar-winning and Tony-nominated composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz will host a dynamic three-day musical theatre workshop program at the University of Miami at Coral Gables, thru Oct. 5. Oscar-winning and Tony-nominated composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz will host a dynamic three-day musical theatre workshop program at the University of Miami at Coral Gables, thru Oct. 5. The workshop, which began Oct. 3, is presented by the American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Foundation. Schwartz directs this ongoing national program and hosts the event, which is the first-ever ASCAP Foundation Musical Theatre Workshop to be held outside New York or Los Angeles.

ASCAP's director of musical theatre, Michael Kerker organizes and coordinates the event.

Featured as workshop panelists in Miami will be the creators of The Fantasticks and I Do, I Do, Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, as well as veteran Broadway musical star Karen Morrow.

The first evening of the program featured a concert featuring Schwartz, Jones, Schmidt and Morrow in performance. The second day will feature a discussion of what it takes to create a Broadway musical. The final day will feature readings of two locally-created musicals which will be critiqued by the panelists.
