Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company has announced casting for its upcoming productions of Blks by poet Aziza Barnes, You Got Older by Clare Barron, the world premiere of Tracy Letts’ The Minutes, and Steppenwolf for Young Adults’ production of The Burn by Charm playwright Philip Dawkins.

The Minutes, a new political comedy by Pulitzer Prize and Tony winner Letts, is set to begin performances November 9 in Steppenwolf’s Downstairs Theatre. The cast will be made up of Kevin Anderson, James Vincent Meredith, Sally Murphy, William Petersen, Francis Guinan, Ian Barford, Brittany Burch, Cliff Chamberlain, Penny Slusher, Danny McCarthy, and Jeff Still.

Billed as a “scathing comedy,” The Minutes is about ”small-town politics and real-world power that exposes the ugliness behind some of our most closely-held American narratives.” Anna D. Shapiro directs; performances will run through December 31.

The cast of Blks, which depicts a day in the life of four women of color in New York, is made up of Namir Smallwood, recently seen Off-Broadway in Pipeline, Leea Ayers, Nora Carroll, Celeste Cooper, Danielle Davis, and Kelly O’Sullivan.

Performances begin December 7 in the Upstairs Theatre and continue through January 28, 2018, with direction by Nataki Garrett.

Barron’s Obie Award-winning You Got Older, which debuts in Chicago with direction by Jonathan Berry, will feature a cast made up of Audrey Francis, Caroline Neff, Francis Guinan, Glenn Davis, Emjoy Gavino, David Lind, and Gabriel Ruiz in the Downstairs Theatre.

In You Got Older, Mae, brokenhearted and unemployed, returns home to care for her ailing father. Performances will run January 25–March 11, 2018.

The Steppenwolf for Young Adults’ production of The Burn (February 14–March 3, 2018) will feature a cast made up of Birgundi Baker, Nina Ganet, Phoebe Gonzalez, Erik Hellman, and Dyllan Rodrigues-Miller. Devon de Mayo directs the play in the Upstairs Theatre.

The world-premiere play about a high school production of The Crucible explores what happens to a teacher and his students when a classroom conflict turns into an online witch-hunt.
