The new work, which was created in collaboration with a host of actors, begins performances at Steppenwolf's Garage Theatre on May 27. It runs through July 3. Landau, best known for her direction and co-authorship of Floyd Collins, describes the work thusly: "The piece should feel like a rollercoaster ride, or an event—and an exciting, high voltage, messy, dangerous, unpredictable, out there, provocative one at that. For me, there is a language in the theatre—not only the written or spoken word, but also time, space, light, sound, movement, etc. This is the language I'm interested in writing in and exploring for Theatrical Essays."

Scribbling along with Landau are her co-creators, actors Guy Adkins, Molly Brennan, Cliff Chamberlain, Samatha Gleisten, Halena Starr Kays, Tarell Alvin McCraney, Shawn Pfautsch, Ben Viccellio, Dennis Watkins, dramaturg Heidi Coleman and stage manager Michelle Medvin. All of the above actors perform in the play.

Landau's work at Steppenwolf has included The Time of Your Life, Maria Arndt, Time to Burn, The Berlin Code and The Ballad of Little Jo. On Broadway, she directed the short-lived revival of Bells Are Ringing. She'll direct Of Thee I Sing for Paper Mill Playhouse in the fall.
