It's just another day at work for Jones, but it still represents a milestone. The number includes performances Jones gave in the 2004 Off-Broadway run, the 2004-05 Broadway run and the current national tour, now at San Diego's Civic Theatre through Nov. 5. Jones won the 2005 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her turn as the tough Bronx nun who suggests that a popular priest is having inappropriate relations with a young student.
Jones is scheduled to continue in the tour, which she launched earlier this year, through April 8, 2007. Doug Hughes directs.
A veteran stage actress respected in the American theatre community but not widely known for film or TV (despite work in the movies "Signs," "The Village" and "Ocean's 12," among others), Cherry Jones' Broadway credits include The Lincoln Center Theater production of The Heiress, Imaginary Friends, Major Barbara, A Moon for the Misbegotten, Our Country's Good, Angels in America and most recently Faith Healer. She has also been seen in the regional and Off-Broadway productions of Flesh & Blood, Pride's Crossing, The Baltimore Waltz, Night of the Iguana, The Good Person Setzuan and 25 productions as a company member of the American Repertory Theatre, including Twelfth Night, The Three Sisters, The Caucasian Chalk Circle and Lysistrata.
Her mantle includes two Tony Awards, two Obies, two Joseph Jefferson Awards, three Drama Desks, three Outer Critics Awards, the Sidney Kingsley, two Lucille Lortel Awards, the Elliott Norton and the Drama League Award.
