Variety reports that Pamela Gray is writing the script for the movie that may cast Streep as Myron, the library worker who also penned the book. No additional casting has been announced. In 1988 Myron discovered an abandoned orange tabby in the overnight drop box at the Spencer, IA public library where she worked. Named after the Dewey Decimal System, the loveable cat that changed the lives of Spencer residents became a mascot for the town.
Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will produce the film for New Line Cinema.
Meryl Streep appears in the upcoming film adaptation of Doubt and "Julie and Julia." Her film roles include the summer movie "Mamma Mia!" as well as "Kramer vs. Kramer," "Sophie's Choice," "The French Lieutenant's Woman," "The Hours," "Postcards from the Edge" and "The Devil Wears Prada." Streep most recently performed on the New York stage in Mother Courage and The Seagull at the Delacorte and served as producer for Sara Jones: Bridge and Tunnel.
