Surviving Sex Will Get World Premiere in Falcon's All-Comedy Season in Burbank

News   Surviving Sex Will Get World Premiere in Falcon's All-Comedy Season in Burbank
Producer-director Garry Marshall, who co-founded Burbank's Falcon Theatre with his daughter, Kathleen, announced the troupe's all-comedy 2008-2009 season.

The seventh subscription series will feature five plays — all comedies — including one world premiere, one West Coast premiere, one international hit and two shows by Troubadour Theater Company.

David Landsberg's Surviving Sex will get its world premiere Jan. 28, 2009-March 1, 2009. From the author of last season's popular An Act of Love comes this tale of "insanity and hilarity." Stan Cooper's life gets complicated "when he insists on watching the love scene between his girlfriend and her acting partner," according to Falcon notes. "Though soured on love, he is lured back to the eternal desire for 'coupling.' Life without romance and relationships may be a lot safer than surrendering to one's sexual needs..."

The season begins in the Forest of Arden as the Troubadour Theater Company blends Shakespeare's comedy, As You Like It, and the music of U2 in As U2 Like It. Matt Walker directs the Aug. 13-Sept. 14 production.

Richard Alfieri's regionally (and internationally) popular Six Dance Lesson in Six Weeks, about two very different people finding common ground on a dance floor, directed by Arthur Allan Seidelman, runs Oct. 22-Nov. 23.

The Troubadour Theater Company's It's a Stevie Wonderful Life (a blend of R&B and Frank Capra) plays Dec. 3-Nov. 23. Matt Walker directs. The West Coast premiere of Garry Marshall's Everybody Say "Cheese!" will play March 11, 2009-April 11, 2009. It's 1963, "and Harriet Keenan decides it's time to join the women's movement before it stops moving. But her liberation requires the help of her husband, Leo, whose greatest ambition in life is to die before something happens to him." It's "filled with quick-witted, warm-hearted characters you'd expect from comedy legend Garry Marshall."
