The Secret River launches the season Jan. 8-Feb. 9, 2013. Australian playwright Bovell, who earned acclaim for When the Rain Stops Falling, authored the stage adaptation that will star Trevor Jamieson and Jeremy Sims. According to STC, "Set in the early 19th century [The Secret River explores] the conflict between transported thief William Thornhill and the Dharug people who own the land he tries to settle."

Additional highlights include George Bernard Shaw's Mrs. Warren's Profession, starring Helen Thomson, which will run Feb. 14-April 6, 2013; and Richard Bean's hit comedy One Man, Two Guvnors, based on The Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni. The National Theatre of Great Britain production will run March 30-May 11, 2013.

Fury, a new STC commission by Joanna Murray-Smith, will debut April 15-June 8, 2013. Robert Menzies, Sarah Peirse and Geraldine Hakewill will star. "In this intelligent new work, imbued with insight and wit, Patrick and Alice are a happily married, successful couple of 20 years standing. When their son is accused of graffiti-ing a mosque, secrets of their pasts emerge and suddenly the safe, politically-correct world they’ve built around themselves is blown apart," STC states.

STC artistic director Andrew Upton and Benedict Andrews' new adaptation of Jean Genet's The Maids, starring Blanchett and Huppert as vengeful sisters, will be staged June 4-July 20, 2013. Andrews will direct.

Matilda The Musical co-writer Tim Minchin will co-star with Toby Schmitz in Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, running Aug. 6-Sept. 7, 2013. Director Simon Phillips (Priscilla Queen of the Desert) and designer Gabriela Tylesova, who recently collaborated on the Australian production of Love Never Dies, will re-team for this production. Also planned are Vere (Faith) by Australian actor-playwright John Doyle to begin Nov. 6, 2013; a revival of Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot with Hugo Weaving and Richard Roxburgh, beginning Nov. 12, 2013; and Sophie Treadwell's Machinal, which starts performances Nov. 21, 2013.
