News Symphonic Concert Version of Umbrellas of Cherbourg Will Play Paris; Cast Announced The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (Les Parapluies de Cherbourg), the award-winning 1964 film by Jacques Demy with music by Michel Legrand, will enjoy a new life on the stage of Paris' Théâtre du Châtelet Sept. 11-14.

Although the film has previously been adapted for the stage (in New York and Paris in 1979, Tokyo in 1983 and in London in 2011), this time, it will get a symphonic concert version treatment with a 75-piece orchestra conducted by composer Legrand.

The iconic couple portrayed on film by Catherine Deneuve and Nino Castelnuovo will be portrayed here by 17-year-old Marie Oppert as Genevieve and Vincent Niclo as Guy. Opera stars Natalie Dessay and Laurent Naouri play Mme. Emery and Roland Cassard. Completing the cast are Jasmine Roy (Elise), Louise Leterme (Madeleine), Franck Vincent, Franck Lopez, Arnaud Léonard and Elsa Dreisig. The production will be staged by Vincent Vittoz.

The Umbrellas of Cherbourg features such tunes as "Watch What Happens" and the Academy Award-nominated "I Will Wait For You."
