Carlson, who starred in the Washington, DC, company's summer 2007 mounting of the classic Shakespeare tragedy, will also be part of the company's annual Free for All production at the Carter Barron Amphitheatre May 22-June 1. Originally directed by artistic director Michael Kahn, the spring production will be restaged by Alexander Burns. Carlson will be joined onstage by Michelle Beck as Ophelia, Janet Zarish as Gertrude and Dakin Matthews as the Ghost of Hamlet's father, First Player and Gravedigger.

Since 1991 Shakespeare Theatre Company has presented ten free performances of a Shakespeare work each year at the Carter Barron Amphitheatre in Rock Creek Park.

Jeffrey Carlson made his STC debut in the title role of Lorenzaccio. The Juilliard grad's Broadway credits include Taboo, Tartuffe and The Goat or Who Is Sylvia? He recently portrayed a transgender character on "All My Children."
