Regent's Park Open Air Theatre artistic director Timothy Sheader and Liam Steel co-directed the well-received 2010 London production, which has also been available for digital download and rental via DigitalTheatre.com. The outdoor summer staging incorporated a multi-level set designed by Soutra Gilmour, who also rendered costumes.

It has not been determined which elements of Sheader and Steel's production will be incorporated into the engagement at the Delacorte Theater. Negotiations are expected to be finalized later this month.

The Delacorte Theater, nestled within Central Park, makes an ideal setting for the musical inspired by the Grimm Brothers' fairytales, with views of Belvedere Castle visible across a lake just beyond the stage.

Representatives for the Open Air Theatre and the Public Theater, which presents Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte, could not confirm news of the production. The Public Theater has not announced its summer season.

Into the Woods features a Tony-winning score by Stephen Sondheim and Tony-winning book by James Lapine. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1987 at the Martin Beck Theatre starring Bernadette Peters, Chip Zien, Joanna Gleason, Kim Crosby and Robert Westenberg. A 2002 Broadway revival played the Broadhurst Theatre.

The Open Air Theatre production included Helen Dallimore as Cinderella, Mark Hadfield as the Baker, Jenna Russell as the Baker's Wife, Hannah Waddingham as Witch, Billy Boyle as Mysterious Man, Michael Xavier as Wolf and Cinderella's Prince and Judi Dench as the voice of the Giant.
