LOS ANGELES--Sure, industrial work can be satisfying, it can be fun, and in this case, it can even attract an audience.

Tap Dogs, billed as an "irreverent, rocking theatrical experience," features six performers who tap dance on a construction-site set. The show hits the region June 23 at the Long Beach Terrace Theater.

The production was created by two-time Olivier Award-winning choreographer Dein Perry, in collaboration with designer-director Nigel Triffet and composer Andrew Wilkie. Perry, known as one of Australia's top tappers, drew on his own experience as an industrial mechanic in Newcastle, Australia.

Tap Dogs had its world premiere at the Sydney Theatre Festival in January 1995, and played at the Edinburgh Festival later that year. Soon the show was touring Australia and England.

The production runs June 23 to 28 at the Long Beach Terrace Theater, 300 E. Ocean Blvd., as part of the MasterCard Broadway by the Beach series. Tap Dogs is performed at 8 PM Tuesday through Friday; 5 PM and 9 PM Saturday; and 3 PM and 7:30 PM Sunday. Tickets for Tap Dogs range from $12 to $42.50, and are available at TicketMaster outlets and at the theatre box office. For information, call (213) 365-3500 or (714) 740-2000. --By Michael Farkash
