Taye Diggs, who portrayed Benny in the original Broadway company of Jonathan Larson's Rent, will star in an updated film version of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Variety reports that Diggs will be part of the cast of "A Midsummer Night's Rave," which concerns a group of young men and women who fall under the influence of Puck, a drug dealer. Written by Robert Raymond and directed by Gil Cates Jr., the 10 Cates Pictures production will also feature Andrew Keegan, Sunny Mabrey, Corey Pearson, Chris Owen, Jason London, Greg Zola, Ted Stryker, Carrie Fisher, Lauren German, Chad Lindberg, Matt Czuchry and Will McCormack.

Taye Diggs made his Broadway debut in the ensemble of the Lincoln Center revival of Carousel. He also starred as Benjamin Coffin III (Benny) in Rent and later appeared in the Manhattan Theatre Club mounting of The Wild Party. Diggs, who will appear in the upcoming movie version of Chicago, has also appeared in such films as "How Stella Got Her Groove Back," "The Wood," "The Best Man," "The Way of the Gun," "Media Whore" and "Just a Kiss." He also starred as Jackson Duper on the TV series "Ally McBeal."
