Both the iPhone and Android apps allow TKTS customers to know, in real-time, what shows are available at all three TKTS Discount Booths — Times Square, South Street Seaport and Downtown Brooklyn.
According to TDF, the earlier iPhone app has become one of the most downloaded New York theatre apps in the iTunes App Store. The iPhone app is still available free of charge through March 1 (after March 1 downloads will cost 99 cents).
The Official TKTS Android app is available for download free of charge through May 15 at Android Market or at www.tdf.org/tktsapp.
Like the Official TKTS iPhone app, the Android app "is connected to the same software that runs the TKTS electronic boards, so patrons see exactly what is being shown on the boards."
A Windows 7 version of the Official TKTS app will be forthcoming. The Official TKTS Android app features a real-time display of what is currently on sale at all three TKTS Discount booths; a comprehensive show search where you'll find what is happening onstage in New York City — including show descriptions, performance schedules, theatre locations, accessibility information and links to official show web sites for Broadway, Off-Broadway, Off-Off Broadway, dance and music productions; "TDF Stages," TDF's online theatre magazine featuring articles, videos and podcasts.
TKTS is a project of Theatre Development Fund (TDF), a not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts. TDF has three TKTS Discount Booths for same-day tickets to Broadway and Off-Broadway shows at up to 50 percent off full-price: the new Times Square TKTS Booth "under the red glass steps" in the Duffy Square; the Lower Manhattan TKTS Booth at South Street Seaport at the corner of Front and John Streets and the Downtown Brooklyn TKTS Booth in 1 MetroTech Center at Jay Street and Myrtle Avenue Promenade.
Since TKTS first opened for business over 37 years ago on June 25, 1973, over 54 million tickets have been sold at discount prices to millions of New Yorkers and visitors who may not have been able to attend live performances without TKTS.
Those admissions represent over $1.6 billion in revenue returned to thousands of productions.
