News Tears Through Laughter: Steel Magnolias Begins Casa Mañana Run Feb. 12 The Casa Mañana staging of the audience favorite Steel Magnolias begins performances Feb. 12.

Margaret Colin, Sally Struthers, Ruta Lee, June Squibb, Jennifer Blood and Erin Krakow star in Robert Harling's crowd-pleasing comedy that follows the lives and relationships of a group of southern women who gather regularly at their local beauty parlor.

Colin portrays M'Lynn, with Struthers as salon owner Truvy, Ruta Lee as Clairee, June Squibb as Ouiser, Jennifer Blood as Annelle and Erin Krakow plays Shelby.

Steel Magnolias premiered at the WPA Theatre in 1987 prior to transferring to the Lucille Lortel Theatre, where it ran for 1,126 performances. The 1989 movie adaptation starred Daryl Hannah, Dolly Parton, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley MacLaine, Sally Field and Julia Roberts. The 2005 Broadway production featured Tony winner Christine Ebersole, Delta Burke, Marsha Mason, Frances Sternhagen, Lily Rabe and Rebecca Gayheart.

Harling has gone on to pen the screenplays for "The First Wives Club," "Soapdish" and "The Evening Star"; he also directed the latter.
