Technical Delay Snares First Preview of Amelie Musical | Playbill

News Technical Delay Snares First Preview of Amelie Musical Berkeley Repertory Theatre has canceled the planned Aug. 28 preview of Amélie, a new musical based on the Academy Award-nominated quirky French film of the same title, due to a technical delay.

The new musical starring Samantha Barks (Eponine in the film adaptation of Les Misérables) was slated to premiere Aug. 28. Representatives for the production informed Playbill.com that a delay in the delivery of "a technical element" prompted the cancellation of the first performance.

Amélie is now on track to begin Aug. 29. The new musical officially opens Sept. 11. It is directed by Tony Award winner Pam MacKinnon (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?).
