Classic Arts News Tenor Giuseppe di Stefano Attacked in Kenya Retired Italian tenor Giuseppe di Stefano was ambushed last week by unknown attackers in Kenya, the London Guardian reports.
The 83-year-old is in critical condition in an intensive care unit at a Mombasa hospital. The Italian news agency Ansa reported that he "hovers between life and death" after suffering severe head injuries.

Di Stefano was in his car with his wife, about to drive from their Diani villa, abut 270 miles from Nairobi, to a coastal resort when the attackers struck, and brutally beat him.

The Sicilian-born singer was famous for duets with Maria Callas, and was considered one of the best singers in the world in the 1960s and '70s.
