Opening is set for April 30, with performances continuing in repertory to May 22 at 59E59 Theatres.

"If the events of September 11th, 2001 changed everybody's life, someone forgot to tell Nigel," according to production notes. "With his X Box, his TV and his spliff, Nigel's blissfully continues a life of pure idleness. That is, until a maverick cop on a covert mission puts Nigel back in touch with his estranged brother Karim and into a hot bed of potential terrorist activity at the local mosque. A delectably witty political farce, The People Next Door is about what happens when someone else's global problem becomes your local one."

Playwright Henry Adam wrote The People Next Door in six weeks, at the beginning of the second Gulf War and at a time when terror suspects were being rounded up in Edinburgh. Susan Mansfield in the Scotsman said that The People Next Door "struck a cord because it responds not with ponderous theorizing, but with a healthy dose of cynicism. It observes sharply our better-concealed prejudices and does it all with sparkling knockabout humour."

Playwright Adam stated, "If Snoop Dog ever wrote an Ealing comedy, this might be it!"

Henry Adam was the 2004 Traverse Theatre's Pearson Playwright in Residence. His first full-length play for the Traverse, Among Unbroken Hearts , transferred to The Bush Theatre, London in May 2001 after successful runs in Edinburgh and the Highlands. Among Unbroken Hearts was joint winner of the 2002 Meyer Whitworth Award and The People Next Door picked up Fringe First and Herald Angel awards in 2003 before transferring to the Theatre Royal, Stratford East. His other plays include When the Dons Were Kings (Lemon Tree, Aberdeen); An Clo Mor (Theatre Highland); Millennium-Angels of Paris (His Majesty’s, Aberdeen); The Widow (Sharp Shorts, Traverse Theatre); The Abattoir (winner Mobil Scottish Playwriting Competition). Ian Grieve (director) is artistic director of the Perth Theatre.

The cast includes Ronny Jhutti, Mary McCusker, Mark McDonnell and Daniel Redmond.

Brits Off Broadway, the festival featuring the best in new British theatre, continues at 59E59 Theatres through July 3.
