Based on the Doris Betts short story, "The Ugliest Pilgrim," Violet, tells of a young woman who travels across the South, seeking an evangelist whom she believes can cure her disfigured face. Along the way she meets two soldiers who become her traveling companions. Tesori (Twelfth Night, First Picture Show) wrote the score with Crawley providing the book and lyrics.

The musical's 1997 off-Broadway mounting garnered the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and the Richard Rodgers Production Award.

Featured in the Palo Alto staging are Kelli Maguire (Violet), Jonathan Rhys Williams, Michael Gene Sullivan, Chelsea Stock, Kevin Blackton and Remi Sandri. Maguire was featured in the off-Broadway musical Swingtime Canteen.

Tickets are available by calling the box office at (650) 903-6000. Violet is performed at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts (Castro & Mercy Streets). -- By David Lefkowitz
