Tevye Served Raw, an evening of Sholem Aleichem material, will begin performances July 5 prior to an official opening July 17 at The Playroom Theater (151 W. 46th Street).
Directed by Allen Lewis Rickman, the production will feature adaptations of Aleichem's Tevye stories (“What, Me Worthy?” and “Get Thee Gone!”), scenes from his own long-unseen Yiddish stage version, and three of his comedic stories newly adapted (“Strange Jews on a Train,” “The Yiddish Sisyphus,” and “A Stepmother’s Trash-Talk”). Rickman also provided the translations.
The cast includes Allen Lewis Rickman and Yelena Shmulenson (the Yiddish-speaking couple from A Serious Man) and Shane Baker.
The production will be performed in English and Yiddish with English supertitles.
Performances continue through August 14.
