The Apollo Theater has announced that it will host auditions for its 2017 Amateur Night series in multiple cities this year: New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, DC. The contestants selected to perform at the theatre’s signature weekly show will compete for a chance to win the top prize of $20,000.

Auditions will be held in Philadelphia at the Kimmel Center on September 17; in New York City at the Apollo Theater on September 24; and will conclude in Washington, D.C. at Howard University on October 1.

Amateur Night producers will see of hundreds singers, rappers, dancers, comedians, and spoken word artists across the three cities. Each audition will kick off at 10 AM and only the first 200 acts will be seen; contestants must be over 18.

One way to achieve this is by opening our Amateur Night 2017 auditions to a geographically-diverse pool of talent,” said Jonelle Procope, President and CEO of the Apollo Theater in a press statement. “Amateur Night is not only a beloved live, weekly show but rather a greater catalyst renown for sparking the careers of so many legendary performers.”
