News The Broadway League Names New President Charlotte St. Martin, who was named executive director of The Broadway League in 2006, has been promoted to president of the organization, it was announced May 20.

The League, a consortium of Broadway producers and theatre owners, is the national trade group for the Broadway community, and co-presenter of the annual Tony Awards. Under St. Martin's stewardship Broadway saw its first $1 billion season.

Robert Wankel, Board Chairman of the League, issue the following statement: "I am pleased to announce that Charlotte St. Martin has been elected President of the Broadway League. It is a much deserved recognition of the extraordinary job she has been doing running the league since she joined our organization in 2006. Thanks to her leadership, our industry has accomplished many goals to ensure that Broadway remains healthy and vital."

A League spokesperson said St. Martin's responsibilities will remain much the same, and the title of executive director will be retired for the rest of her tenure.


The former Executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Loews Hotels, St. Martin replaced Jed Bernstein, who served nearly 11 years in the position. St. Martin, a Texas native who has resided in New York for nearly two decades, joined Loews Hotels in 1977 as Director of Sales and Marketing for the former Loews Anatole Hotel. During her time with the company she served as President and CEO of the Anatole Hotel and later became Executive Vice President of Operations. She has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Association Executives, the Professional Convention Management Association, and as both an Officer and Director of Meeting Planners International. From 1995-1999, she was Chair of the Education Foundation of the Professional Convention Management Association, and served on their Board from 1988 through 2001.
