For a show that opened as a six-week limited engagement on August 18, 1999, The Donkey Show has shown itself a dancin' machine. The disco-fueled interpretation of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream will celebrate its 1,000 New York City performance at the Club El Flamingo. The Donkey Show, created and directed by Diane Paulus (Running Man) and Randy Weiner, sets Shakespeare's classic comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream into the 1970s disco scene where a nightclub impresario Oberon and disco diva Titania find themselves in the midst of a timeless lovers' quarrel. The character of Bottom, meanwhile, is replaced by a pair of afro-ed, disco-dancing twins. Donkey features songs that defined the disco era like "I Love the Nightlife," "Ring My Bell," "Car Wash," "We Are Family," "You Sexy Thing" and David Shire's "Night on Disco Mountain."
