The show, which was ambitiously based on Homer's "Iliad" and "Odyssey," relocating the action to the American Northwest at the turn of the 20th century, began Off-Broadway at the then-new Phoenix Theatre. Critical hosannahs and the New York Drama Critics Award for best musical sent it speeding to Broadway, where it nonetheless only lasted a few months. The show launched Kaye Ballard as a star. The concert will play at the Gehry-designed Sosnoff Theater at Bard College, and feature The American Symphony Orchestra. Jonathan Tunick will conduct.
