News "The Jeffersons" Star Sherman Hemsley Is Part of San Antonio Ain't Misbehavin' Beginning Jan. 20 Sherman Hemsley, best known for his work on TV's “The Jeffersons,” “All in the Family” and “Amen," stars in Off-Broadway Productions' mounting of the Fats Waller revue Ain’t Misbehavin', which plays the Josephine Theatre in San Antonio Jan. 20-Feb. 11.

The cast also features Charles Barksdale (who also serves as director), LiGaya Perkins, Jackyee Carter, Brian Ridley and Dolores Walker.

The Tony-winning Ain’t Misbehavin’, press notes state, "encompasses 30 show-stopping musical numbers that take you on a journey through Harlem in its heyday. With snazzy period costumes, complete with bowlers and spats and ermine and pearls, the dynamic six-member cast and a swinging jazz combo will transform the Josephine Theatre into a rollicking party that pays tribute to the African-American musicians of the 1920s and ‘30s who were part of what has become known as the Harlem Renaissance. The show takes its title from the Fats Waller song of the same name."

Hemsley made his Broadway debut in Purlie Victorious and toured with the show for a year. In the summer of 1972 he joined the ensemble of the successful Vinnette Carroll musical Don’t Bother Me, I Can’t Cope.

Josephine Theatre is located at 339 W. Josephine Street. Tickets to the show, which runs Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2 PM, are $45 and $50 and can be purchased by calling (210) 734-4646.
