Bartlett Sher's gorgeous production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I was followed by an exquisite opening red carpet, with the cast showing up in many of spring's most popular trends.

Trend 1: Vivid Color
What can I say... Ashley Park knew just how to get attention in a form-fitting, fabulous, long, hot, red number. It doesn't have to be red, but for Ashley, this color was just perfection. Considering her dress, Ashley could have been very natural with her makeup, but she wanted to make a statement and go glam with this jaw-dropping dramatic makeup.
Trend 2: Graphic Patterns
Pattern makes a dress look very modern and not something the ladies might use for a concert. Autumn Ogama chose a festive and flattering pattern to celebrate the glamour of this important evening.
Trend 3: Black and White
We saw a lot of black and white on the carpet last night. It's a very hot trend for the spring, and the key is that you don't have to just wear dresses. Jumpsuits and pants (showing as much skin as possible), as worn by Sumie Maeda, or the little black dress, like this one on LaMae Caparas, with embellishments make eveningwear modern, chic, and just plain fun.
Trend 4: Amazing Details
What you saw last night, was that when choosing a dress, leading ladies and girls are looking to make a statement. They are selecting unique long gowns and ensembles with amazing details.
The luminous Kelli O'Hara also chose a gorgeous graphic black and white dress, but she added a sheer bottom, sending just the right amount of attention to her legs. She also chose a dress with a great cut-out and block coloring.
Trend 5: Black Is Not the Only Dark Color
Instead of black, it's nice to sometimes see a dark midnight navy. Thank you, Ruthie Ann Miles. Of course, the shine adds to the drama. Perfect shape on Ruthie.
Trend 6: Lace
Ali Ewoldt was right on trend in her nude dress with black lace overlay. It was perfect for her tall statuesque figure.
Trend 7: Variations on the Traditional
And bravo to the boys and men of The King and I for giving us variations on the traditional tuxedo, all the while keeping the cool factor alive. Navy. Shawl collars.
