May 22: Helmed by Tony-winning director Pam MacKinnon, Playwrights Horizons presents the Off-Broadway premiere of The Qualms, about a swingers party, by Pulitzer and Tony winner Bruce Norris (Clybourne Park).

 

OPENINGS

May 27: The 53rd season of Shakespeare in the Park kicks off with The Tempest starring Academy Award nominee Sam Waterston ("The Newsroom"), marking his 13th Shakespearean role at the Public Theatre. The free, outdoor production is helmed by Tony nominee Michael Greif (If/Then). May 28: Four-time Emmy winner Jim Parsons, star of the CBS sitcom "The Big Bang Theory," returns to Broadway to play God in the new comedy An Act of God. David Javerbaum, a 13-time Emmy winner for his work as head writer of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," is the man behind the script.

May 28: Robert Creighton stars as legendary Hollywood tough guy James Cagney in the musical about his life, Cagneyfrom his humble beginnings on New York's Lower East Side to his Hollywood fame. The musical, helmed by Bill Castellino, features choreography by Joshua Bergasse.

 

SPECIAL EVENTS

May 24: An all-star lineup joins this year's National Memorial Day Concert. Co-hosted by Tony Award winner Joe Mantegna and Emmy Award winner Gary Sinise, the inspiring night of remembrance features appearances and performances from Emmy winner Laurence Fishburne, Tony winner Laura Benanti, Grammy winner Gloria Estefan and “The Voice” winner Tessanne Chin, among others.

May 25: The New York Philharmonic offers its free annual Memorial Day Concert of Beethoven and Shstakovich at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.

May 27: Multi-award winner Neil Patrick Harris, star of "How I Met Your Mother" and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, comes to 92Y to discuss his career with Jonathan Tisch as part of the Spring Theatre Events lineup.

May 27: "Glee" and current Hedwig star Darren Criss hosts a free outdoor concert in the heart of the theatre district, Stars in the Alley. The event features some of Broadway's best performers and shows, including a host of 2015 Tony nominees like Sydney Lucas, Tony Yazbeck and Christian Borle, among others.

May 28: Braodway star Laura Osnes returns to 54 Below in An Evening with Laura Osnes: a concert featuring an assortment of her favorite songs and stories from past shows, concerts and cabarets.

May 31: The 60th annual Drama Desk Awards, hosted by Laura Benanti at The Town Hall, celebrates the best of Broadway and Off-Broadway. Hamilton leads the pack of nominees with 13 nominations.
