News The Lion King's Holt to Star in Black Boy at the Kennedy Center The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will present Black Boy Jan. 13-15, 2006, at the Center's new Family Theater.

The one-man production stars Charles Holt, who has been seen on Broadway in the Tony-winning The Lion King. The return engagement of Black Boy coincides with the Kennedy Center's commemoration of the Martin Luther King holiday. Black Boy is a coming-of-age story adapted from Richard Wright's 1945 biography. The play, according to press notes, "traces the African-American author's many boyhood struggles — from growing up poor and being abandoned by his father to facing 'Jim Crow' prejudice in early 20th century America." Actor Holt portrays 20 characters in the play.

On Broadway Charles Holt appeared in Disney's The Lion King. The actor's screen credits include "Anne B. Real," "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and "All My Children." He previously performed Black Boy at the Kennedy Center in October 2003.

Tickets, priced at $15, are available by calling (202) 467-4600 or (800) 444-1324. For more information visit www.kennedy-center.org.
