PlayBlog The Mountaintop's Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett Visit Brooklyn High School Theatre Students (Video) Academy Award nominees Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett visited theatre students at Brooklyn High School of the Arts in Boerum Hill Sept. 19 to talk about Katori Hall’s Olivier Award-winning play, The Mountaintop, set to begin preview performances Sept. 22.

In the upcoming Broadway play, Jackson will portray Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Basset will play Camae. The Mountaintop will officially open Oct. 13 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

Taking place on April 3, 1968, The Mountaintop, press notes state, is a "gripping reimagining of events the night before the assassination of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. After delivering his legendary ‘I've Been to the Mountaintop’ speech, an exhausted Dr. King retires to his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis while a storm rages outside. When a mysterious young woman delivers room service, King is forced to confront his past, as well as his legacy to his people."

Here, NY1 takes the camera to Brooklyn High School of the Arts where the cast and creative team meet the aspiring artists. Jackson, Bassett and Hall talk about the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the show's stars describe how they prepared to take on Hall's dramatic piece.
