News The Mysteries Staged in the West End in Feb. 2002

The Mysteries will hit the West End in February 2002, transferring from Wilton's Music Hall to the Queens Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue.

This production creates a blend of the mediaeval words of the Chester Mystery Plays. The Mysteries is performed in English as well as Xhosa, Zulu and Afrikaans and set to a variety of African and European music. It draws on the rich choral traditions of the South African townships and modern rhythms created with oil drums and penny whistles.

In June 2001, the cast of forty young South Africans had an outstanding response to the twenty performances of their extraordinary show at Wilton's Music Hall.

The Mysteries was expected to travel to the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 2002, but that plan was canceled by BAM due to the financial downturn following Sept. 11.

The Mysteries will be showing at Queens Theatre from 22nd February for a 12-week season.
