Benefits and Galas The Public's Gala Staging of Runaways Finds Its Cast Much of the cast from the 2016 Encores! staging will return to Elizabeth Swados’ groundbreaking musical June 11–12.

Much of the young cast who performed in the 2016 Encores! revival of Runaways at New York City Center will return to perform in the Public Theater's special two-night engagement of the Elizabeth Swados musical in Central Park. As previously announced, The Public has added a free June 12 performance of Runaways following its 40th anniversary gala presentation on June 11.

Both performances will be held at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. Runaways will be directed by Sam Pinkleton with choreography by Ani Taj and creative advisement by Jeanine Tesori, the same creative team behind the Encores! revival.

Also returning to the production will be cast members Frenie Acoba, Sumaya Bouhbal, Kenneth Cabral, Maxwell Cabral, Taylor Caldwell, Xavier Casmir, Adleesa Edwards, Aidan Gemme, Reyna Guerra, Christina Jimenez, Kylie McNeill, Cele Pahucki, Sam Poon, Siena Rafter, Claudia Ramirez, Ren, Deandre Sevon, Jeremy Shinder, Ripley Sobo, Chris Sumpter, and Maxwell Vice.

They will be joined by new cast members Jaiya Chetram, Dwany Guzman, Noelle Hogan, Jari Jones, Esco Jouléy, and Luka Kain.

Runaways depicts the experiences of runaway children. Swados spent several months observing and interviewing child runaways in New York City in the creation of the piece, creating an eclectic score that weaves reggae, hip-hop, soul, and spoken-word poetry.

Runaways debuted at the Public in February 1978 before transferring to Broadway the same year, earning five Tony nominations: Best Musical, Book of a Musical, Original Score, Choreography, and Direction.

Free tickets to the June 12 public performance of Runaways will be distributed, two per person, at the Delacorte on the day of the show.
