News THE SCREENING ROOM: Celebrating Jerry Herman's Mame (Video) The original production of the Tony Award-nominated Best Musical Mame, which features a classic score by Jerry Herman, closed Jan. 3, 1970. Playbill.com has put together a musical tribute, including performances from the 1966 musical, 1974 film, concert appearances and more.

The original Broadway production of Mame starred Tony Award winner Angela Lansbury in the title role; the stage and screen star reprised her performance for the 1983 Broadway revival. The musical was also recently seen at Connecticut's Goodspeed Opera House.
