"The Sound of Mumbai: A Musical," a documentary following the street children of India who were asked to perform selections from The Sound of Music at Mumbai's National Centre for the Performing Arts, premieres Nov. 23 at 8 PM ET on HBO2.

The documentary will have repeat airings on HBO2 Nov. 27 at 8:15 AM; Dec. 4 at 1:15 PM and 5:10 AM; Dec. 16 at 2 PM; and Dec. 17 at 11:45 AM.

"The Sound of Mumbai: A Musical," according to press notes, "tells the story of the tenacious, musically inclined Indian street children who are enlisted to perform a concert with members of the elite orchestra. For 11-year-old Ashish, like many of the other kids, performing in the concert means more than singing in a world-class theatre; it also offers the hope of rising above his social and cultural limits."

The documentary also features Mangesh, Ashish's best friend, who becomes jealous when Ashish is asked to be a soloist; Nandini, a nine-year-old girl also given a solo; Kimberly, a student at a posh Mumbai school, whom Ashish develops a crush on; Johannes Steinwender, an Austrian music professor who has traveled to Mumbai to conduct the show; and Jini Dinshaw, the well-heeled founder of the Bombay Chamber Orchestra, who conceived the performance.

"The Sound of Mumbai," featuring the music of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, as well as original music by Jody Jenkins, includes the classics "Do-Re-Mi" and "My Favorite Things," among others.

"The Sound of Mumbai: A Musical" had its world premiere at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival and is produced by Joe Walters with executive producers Helen Littleboy and Jim Davey. For more information, visit soundofmumbaimovie.com or click here.
