The Walworth Farce Begins St. Ann's Run April 15 | Playbill

News The Walworth Farce Begins St. Ann's Run April 15
The Druid Theatre Company of Galway returns to New York with the U.S. premiere of The Walworth Farce, which begins performances April 15 at St. Ann's Warehouse.

Penned by Enda Walsh, The Walworth Farce is described in press notes as a "play disguised as an old-fashioned high farce, complete with rapid costume changes, cross-dressing, and mistaken identity. The Walworth Farce combines hilarious moments with shocking realism — frenetic, madcap slapstick with deeper, darker concerns — to deliver an achingly tender insight into what happens when we become stuck in the stories we tell ourselves about our lives."

The four-member company includes Denis Conway, Tadhg Murphy, Garrett Lombard and Mercy Ojelade under the direction of Mikel Murfi. The St. Ann's run continues through May 4.

The Walworth Farce will make its way back across the Atlantic later this year, with a fall run slated for London's National Theatre.

Walworth's creative team comprises Sabine Dargent (production design), Paul Keogan (lighting design) and Doreen McKenna (costume supervisor).

The Druid Theatre Company's new writing program, DruidNew – which originally commissioned The Walworth Farce – will next premiere Walsh's New Electric Ballroom in both Galway and in Edinburgh. A U.S. tour of Playboy of the Western World and Shadow of the Glen are also on the horizon for Druid, which mounts a tour of Martin McDonagh's Cripple of Inishmann in Ireland and the U.K. later this year.
