Theater Talk," the popular PBS show devoted to the world of the stage, will be more than a New York area phenomenon come Sept. 10. On that date, at 12:30 AM, the program will premiere on Boston's PBS's affiliate, WGBH. The series has aired on New York City1s Thirteen/WNET since 1996.
The half-hour program, is, as always, hosted by Michael Riedel, Broadway reporter of The New York Post, and Susan Haskins. The Sept. 10 Boston edition will be a repeat of an earlier show featuring Wit playwright Margaret Edson and director Derek Anson Jones, and an assessment of the 1999 Tony Award winning Best Musical Fosse with Robert Simonson, Editor of Playbill On-Line.
The line-up at WGBH for the next five weeks is as follows:
* Sept. 17: Legendary musical theatre performer John Raitt, followed by a South Pacific 50th Anniversary tribute with original cast member, Don Fellows, and Theodore S. Chapin, The President of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization.
* Sept. 24: Drama critic and social commentator Mark Steyn. * Oct. 1: "Remembering Jule Styne," a tribute to the legendary composer of Gypsy, Bells Are Ringing and Funny Girl with playwright Arthur Laurents, writer-performers Betty Comden and Adolph Green, lyricist Susan Birkenhead and composer Charles Strouse.
* Oct. 8 : Commercial producers Emanuel Azenberg (The Iceman Cometh) and James Freydberg (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) on "The Business of Broadway."
* Oct. 15: A discussion on the life and career of legendary choreographer Jerome Robbins with Clive Barnes, dance and theatre critic of The New York Post, and Sheldon Harnick, with whom Robbins created the classic Fiddler on the Roof.
