Amy Saltz stages the two-hander that begins with "Una's unexpected arrival at Ray's workplace. Fifteen years earlier, Ray and Una had an illicit relationship. Then he disappeared. Today, she has tracked him down at his office, looking to settle their unfinished business. Her desire to confront him unleashes a torrent of unresolved emotions and, for those in the audience, stunning surprises," according to press notes.

J. Tucker Smith (Closer) and newcomer Beth Wittig star in the TheaterWorks production, which is scheduled to run through May 11 with an official opening set for April 11.

The creative team for Blackbird comprises Luke Hegel-Cantarella (set), Anne Kenney (costumes), Mary Jo Dondlinger (lighting) and J. Hagenbuckle (sound).

Harrower's inspiration for Blackbird came after he read a story about a man who traveled abroad to meet a young girl he first encountered on the Internet. His works include Knives in Hens, Kill the Old Torture Their Young, The Chrysalids and Presence. He has also adapted versions of Pirandello's Six Characters in Search of an Author (Six Characters Looking for an Author), Chekhov's Ivanov, and Buchner's Woyzeck.

Blackbird was previously presented Off-Broadway in 2007 by the Manhattan Theatre Club, starring Jeff Daniels and Alison Pill.
