The Agile Rascal Traveling Bike Theatre may be based in San Francisco, but its members haven't seen their hometown in months. The seven-member company has been on tour across America performing their show Sunlight on the Brink. Touring is not unusual for theatre folks, but Agile Rascal claims to have logged 4,000 miles–entirely on bicycles.

The company describes itself as "a collection of Bay Area artists at the intersection of performing arts and bike culture."

According to the New York Daily News, their play "unfolds at a gas station in the Southwest after a devastating drought has forced a mass evacuation of the Western states. Strangers meet and confront the unknown."

That's pretty much what has been happening to the troupe, which "pedaled 40 or 50 miles a day with props, clothes, costumes and equipment on their bikes. They grappled with flat tires, scorching desert heat in June and nasty goathead thorns that’ll pop an inner tube in no time."

According to the company websiteSunlight on the Brink has been performed in "a variety of spaces, from bars to art galleries, parks to black box theaters." Stops have included Denver, Chicago, Detroit and Boston, along with Silver City, NM; Ithaca, NY; and Columbia, MO. After a trek that began May 23, the company will conclude its trek with two performances in New York this week: at the Off-Off-Broadway Alchemical Theatre Laboratory, 104 W. Fourth St., Aug. 28, and at Our Lady of Refuge Church, 2020 Foster Ave. Brooklyn, Aug. 29. Both performances begin at 8 PM, and both are free.

According to the mission statement, two of the company's main goals are to "facilitate a network of artists and performers working at the intersection of biking and art in all forms" and "to present a play that is challenging, comedic and highly physical.... a play that explores the intersection of Capitalism, Technology and Spirituality."
