In the new musical about a family wedding in 1953 Bronx, Wopat (Annie Get Your Gun) will create the role of Tom Hurley, father of the bride, opposite Tony Award winner Faith Prince as Aggie, mother of the bride.

Tony winner John Doyle (Sweeney Todd, Company) will direct a cast that also includes four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein (who also penned the show's libretto) as Aggie's brother Winston, and Leslie Kritzer (Legally Blonde) as the Hurleys' daughter. Dates for a spring 2008 bow at a Jujamcyn Broadway theatre will be announced.

Prior to Broadway, the new musical will launch the 2007-08 season at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre (performances begin Sept. 20), according to producer Jordan Roth, vice president of Jujamcyn Theaters.

According to press notes, "Funny, heartbreaking and oh so human, A Catered Affair reveals relationships strained to their limits when a couple must decide whether to spend their life savings on a family business or to launch their only daughter's marriage with a lavish catered affair. Harvey Fierstein's book and John Bucchino's score seize the opportunity to explore the meaning of family and the need for love, both new and reawakened."

The musical is based on the Turner Entertainment motion picture distributed by Warner Brothers and written by Gore Vidal, and the original teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky. Fierstein penned the libretto to the smash musical La Cage aux Folles (and won a Tony for it), John Bucchino is a Fred Ebb Award-winning composer and lyricist.

Wopat has starred on Broadway in Glengarry Glen Ross (Drama Desk Award, Outstanding Ensemble), 42nd Street, Annie Get Your Gun (Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations, Best Actor in a Musical), Chicago, Guys and Dolls, City of Angels and I Love My Wife.

A Catered Affair will be produced on Broadway by Jujamcyn Theaters, Jordan Roth, Harvey Entertainment/Ron Fierstein, Richie Jackson and Daryl Roth.

The complete cast and design team will be announced shortly.
